A side note was the gas pumps had the last price charged --$0.33 for 94 octane and $0.36 for 100 octane. Been a long time since we've seen prices like that!

William Critchfield -- Here is my 1951 GMC ¾-ton truck. I found it sittin’ on a back road with a for sale sign in the window. An old man came out of the house and said just what they all say, "It ran when I parked it 25 years ago." Well, I'm gonna have to belive that crazy old man, because when I put a battery and gas in it, it did in fact run!! Just goes to show you that sometimes they still run. The best part about the truck is I only paid $350 for the old work horse.

Mick Casey -- I was out looking over fence lines for old trucks ‘n tractors, I came past a farm that had a ’51 Chevy 3100 sittin’ in a shed, and a lady working in the garden. So I stopped by and got out to meet her and asked if the old truck was for sale. Well, she didn’t think so. It belonged to her husband and it was his Fathers truck. “But we have another truck for sale.” She went to get her husband. I asked him about the Chevy 1/2 ton, and he didn’t want to sell it now … maybe a few years he might (as they are both in there 70’s). He said he had another truck for sale -- a 1952 1 ton. “Oh really? May I see it?” So we walk to another shed and open the door and there sat a 1952 1 1/2 ton CHEVY COE 5 WINDOW, all covered up. As I looked around and I asked does it run ... WELL IT RAN WHEN MY DAD PARKED IT !!! he said -- his Dad parked there 38 years ago and a week later his Dad died. BOY did that hit me hard standing there in front of him and I didn’t know what to say and I couldn’t even swallow. Talk about walking in there all hyped up and than with that gut feeling. I should have kept driving by, but he told me he couldn’t touch it and or move it because his 90-something mother always asked is that truck still in that shed. He told me she past away in early spring of this year and he now wants to sell it. We talked and gave me a price but I would like his half ton instead. We talked half a day away. I went back a week later, and we looked it over and I took some pics for you or anyone else interested. BUT yea, it ran when his Dad parked it.

Dave Isle -- My Uncle used this for many years up in the great north woods of Minnesota logging. It is a 1942 half track with title. When my Uncle retired, so did the half track. It is reverting to dust now, and of course when I asked, my Uncle said "it ran when I parked it."

Mark Bailey - My wife and I do a lot of back country hiking and we have found many old trucks sitting in weird places. This ‘46/47 ton truck was in the valley below several gold mines in the area that have been shut down since the 1940's. Floods and forest growth have covered the remains of this truck. I have been hiking through this area for over 25 years and I had never seen it before. The rain forced us off the path for shelter and that is how I spotted it.

Les Parker - The 1958 TF is a 3600. It was parked in 1989 to judge by the inspection sticker on the windshield. No one around seemed to know why it had been parked, but it was not for sale. They plan to "fix it up some one day." There are still sections of pipe of some kind in the bed. It is surrounded by a lot of old riding mowers.

Les Parker - It has been a while since I got out and shot any pictures for IRWIPI. My wife Sarah and I did a basic "leafer" trip to the NC mountains this past weekend. In places where there used to be scads of old trucks, there is nothing left. Money is tight on folks and scrap prices are up. I would guess 100’s of old vehicles have gone for scrap in the last couple of years alone, just from my wife's home town area. It's very sad. A logger bought the GMC 4000 with a bad tranny for the engine. He used that then the rear frame section for a trailer.

Les Parker - I found a graveyard for 1960 and later Bolts though. I counted over a dozen, including a panel and a 'burb, from the road. It looks like an individual is buying them and hauling them home. From what I could see, most looked pretty good. I'll go back in a few weeks and check that out for sure.

Les Parker - This is a Corbitt truck built in Henderson NC. I guess they are pretty scarce today. There is a '20s vintage Packard chassis with the wheels, buried under farm equipment. Lots of other weird stuff, like a DKW/ Auto Union van. The owner told me that ALL of these trucks were driven to where they now sit. "They ran when I parked 'em." Yeah, right! This may bring good things, but I won't get my hopes up.

Les Parker - I finally got into an old storage yard that I've wanted to get into for a while. To my surprise, there were four TF trucks there that can't be seen from outside. Two of them are panels! The owner will "think on" letting me get some parts. This is an AD GMC that I guess to be about a ton and a half truck.

Les Parker - One of the panels had painted on art work on the doors and sides. It's pretty rusty, but here it is. The body is actually better than my truck! Anyway, here is a picture. The inspection sticker on the windshield expired in March of 1981. APEX Cleaners is in a small town about 15 miles from Raleigh NC. The second line on the side says, "Really Beautiful Cleaning," I think. I couldn't read the door. . I sent this picture to Woody for his "Door Art" Gallery.

I guess the kids are having a longer than average school day!
